622 NIGERIAN POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS CELEBRATE WORLD RADIO DAY IN GRAND STYLE
No fewer than 622 students of the Department of Mass Communication, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (AAPOLY), Ijebu Igbo, Ogun state, Nigeria; gathered at the institution's annexed campus yesterday to observe the 2019 World Radio Day (WRD).
Highlight of the programme includes sensitization of the communities about the use of radio especially as instrument of dialogue, tolerance and peace. Earlier in the day, the participants went round the community with placards announcing the theme of the WRD 2019.
This was followed by a red carpet session where all participants showcased series of radio sets and took group pictures. Being a free programme, the transistor radio admits participants into the venue of the programme.
Immediately after the red carpet, participants converged at the hall where speeches were made by invited guests including the Polytechnic Rector Prof Jumoke Bilesanmi Awoderu. Afterwards, a guest lecture was delivered by a veteran broadcaster from Space FM, Ibadan Mr. Saludeen Omoseni.
Thereafter, the Convener of World Radio Day in the institution, Mr Owoyemi Adeshina declared the event open. As a result, the participants were offered a live presentation of series of radio programmes by the students such as radio drama, newscast, newspaper review, interview, sports news, discussion programmes, traffic update, programmes in indigenous language among others.
The participants expressed satisfaction to take part in the first observance of the World Radio Day in the Polytechnic and looked forward to subsequent celebration.
