To celebrate #worldradioday here's a throwback. One of our #Radio #listenersclubs in Bali A Ward of #Taraba State in Nigeria. They are listening to and discussing 'Yar Baiwa' a maternal reproductive health programme ARDA produced Listeners' clubs help communities discuss the radio dramas and also the development messages contained therein. The clubs also hopefully inspire them to take action Today is World Radio Day. Radio is a venerable medium but still very vibrant. As a tool for development, we at ARDA find it extremely essential. It is more accessible than other types of media, you don't need expensive equipment with high set up costs, or a high level of literacy to receive development messages on Radio. Just turn it on and listen! #radiodrama #worldradioday #worldradioday2017 #informationispower #behavioralchange #radio #listeners #listentogether #developmentcommunication

#Repost @unitednations: "You are listening to Radio Miraya, voice of peace.” On Monday's #WorldRadioDay, we look back to when children took to the airwaves on Radio Miraya, the station of the #UnitedNations #peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, in June last year. The children (pictured), who attend schools in Juba, the country's capital, hosted the station's morning show and read the news. Radio saves lives. In times of crisis and emergency, radio can be a lifeline. For people in shattered societies, or caught in catastrophe, or desperately seeking news, radio brings essential information to the largest number of people in the quickest possible time. Several more @unpeacekeeping missions have radio stations that connect local populations with each other. These include Radio Okapi in the Democractic Republic of the Congo, MINUSTAH FM in #Haiti and Guira FM in the Central African Republic. 📷 UNMISS / Isaac Gideon #SouthSudan #GlobalGoals
