Dot Radio Launched as part of World Radio Day Activities in China

The with 2017 celebrations started in Shanghai at the Convention centre of the Chinese town, just behind the famous telecom tower that makes part of its iconic skyline. The event was hosted by the Shanghai Media Group, an associate member of the EBU, co-organised with UNESCO, ITU and EBU.

The day opened with an official ceremony with the participation of many international and Chinese hosts. Among them Ms. Sun Xiangtong, president of SMG radio; Mr Tong Gang, vice minister and head of SAPPRFT (the media administration of Chinese government), Javad Mottaghi, DG of ABU; Frank La Rue, deputy DG of UNESCO; Mario Maniewicz, deputy director of Radio Regulation.

The event included the official launch of the DOT.radio, the new top level domain of Internet obtained by EBU and supported by all the broadcasting unions of the world. Alain Artero, manager of the project, invited all personalities presents at the event to symbolically  "push the button" of this new adventure. There were dozens of journalists and photo reporters following the event.

Side meetings with SAPPRFT, SMG and CNR took place at the same time and some agreements for distribution of programmes were signed between the EBU and SMG.

The ceremony closed with a concert from the Shanghai auditorium concert hall that was distributed live all over the world by many radio broadcasters, including some EBU members.

A delegation of EBU members, lead by Graham Ellis from BBC , chairman of the EBU's radio group; plus ABU, ASBU and AUB-UAR and RAPAF organizations representatives also attended the event.
