World Radio Day 4ZZZ 102.1FM

4ZZZ is one of the most unique independent community broadcasters in Australia, broadcasting a diverse range of programs 24 hours per day. The station began transmission on December 8 1975 as the first FM community broadcaster in Brisbane transmitting in stereo.

Joining Jade Bullock today in Jakob's absence is 4ZZZ's Program Development Coordinator (one of his "five hats" he wears at 4ZZZ) Blair Martin and special guest co-host, Samuele Barrazoni from Turin, Italy, especially for World Radio Day

Charlotte and Maddie are flying "solo" without a "at work" Alexander and a "Japan located" Lachlan, so they have brought a bit of Japan to Brisbane to help them co-host the show today for World Radio Day, Osaka's very own Shoichi Taniyama!

Special programming takes over the digital network today from 12:00 until 18:00 (AEST) with four programs from the "Radio in Colour" project coordinated by Carolina Caliaba Crespo; a radio history of the world, of Australia, and Brisbane in the last 40 years told through interviews, archival recordings, music and the arts, made by a team of producers from 15 countries around the world at the studios of 4ZZZ & 4EB; interspersed with selectiions such as Brisbane Line's Craig Garrett's acclaimed documentary on "Rainbow Families" and "This Is Not A Test", a documentary on feminism, riot girl music and culture with some local Brisbane riot girl music at the end from GUNK.


photoAfter 18:00, Zed Digital has "All The Best" courtesy of Sydney's FBi community radio station, and "Fair Comment" a joint program between 4ZZZ and Brisbane's multicultural community radio station 4EB covering stories that the mainstream don't or won't cover.  Rounding out the day is 4ZZZ's Andy Paine, the "Lord of the Vinyl" as he continues his survey of each year in the legendary 4ZZZ Hot 100 countdown (the original listener voted annual survey of the best music released that year) and connecting it to the social, political and cultural movements of the time. This week he's in 1986 - Year of the Tiger!
