UNESCO and Farm Radio International are encouraging the general public to celebrate radio as a powerful tool and catalyst for development. Activities planned for the celebration include an Open Forum to be held at National Insurance Commission in Accra from 0900 to 1500. All are welcome to join in this celebration!
The purpose of the forum is to:
• join the international community in celebrating World Radio Day,
• promote the evolution of radio from a one-way to an interactive, participatory tool for communication,
• showcase the impact of radio and how it transforms our daily lives,
• highlight FRI’s contribution in various sectors, including agriculture, health, gender etc.
We are inviting the general public, representatives of radio and other forms of media to share their views about the use of radio, how it has impacted their lives and activities, and how the use of radio can be improved.
Apart from the forum, FRI and UNESCO are encouraging radio stations in public, commercial and community sectors, telecommunication companies, and media training institutions to organize activities and radio programs to mark the day. For example, radio stations across Ghana could interact with their listeners through phone-ins, call-outs and SMS in expressing a special thank you to their local and favorite radio station in a program called “Thank You, Radio…..”(name of radio station).
And for you, the loyal listeners. Please let your local radio station know why “Radio is you!” by calling-in or SMS-ing your thoughts about the importance of radio in your life.
