World Radio Day 2018 in Jordan: Celebration and inauguration of new radio and studio equipment

UNESCO Amman Office will celebrate World Radio Day 2018 in Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan. The event will officially inaugurate brand new radio and studio equipment, and feature a panel discussion with prominent sports personalities on how radio can promote sports in Jordan.

Under the patronage of HE Minister Mohammed al Momani, Minister of State for Media Affairs, UNESCO Amman Office will be joined by Yarmouk University and Yarmouk FM in marking World Radio Day. Yarmouk FM is one of the oldest student/community radio stations in Jordan, and the station as well as the Faculty of Mass Communication have recently benefitted from the exceptional donation of new radio and studio equipment as part of the EU funded “Support to Media in Jordan” project. The celebration will mark this day, recognizing the importance of radio in bringing communities together, as well as inaugurate the new equipment in an official ribbon cutting ceremony. The event is supported by the UNESCO implemented and EU funded projects “Net-Med Youth” and “Support to Media in Jordan”.

Prior to the celebration, a group of radio volunteers at Yarmouk FM will be trained on sports reporting, the gender dimension in sports reporting, and interviewing skills. They will then produce several sports broadcasts and related shows to be aired during the week of World Radio Day (Feb 11-15).

The event will also feature a panel discussion with two prominent Jordanian sports personalities on how radio can promote sports in Jordan.
